Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Thursday rewarded players of the state owned Football Club,Rivers United with the sum of N12million each( $20,000) for winning the Nigerian Professional Football League ( NPFL).
Apart from the N12 million reward, the players are also to embark on two weeks pre – season training in Madrid, Spain.
Governor Wike who personally attended a reception in honour of the club at the Government House,Port Harcourt took photos with members of the team. He also confered on each member of the team, the Governor’s Medal Service Award ( GMSA).
Wike also promised a further reward of $40,000 each if they make it to the group stage of next season’s CAF Champion’s League.
The NPFL win was the first in the Rivers United Football Club’s history. The club dominated the league table for most of the league season and finished with 77 points.to emerge winner.
