The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ),Rivers State has called for justice for Mrs Wakaego Chima who was matcheted by her husband and his female lover.
The incident occurred on Monday,15th August,2022 at Omerelu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a statement signed by the Chairperson, Susan Serekara – Nwikhana and Secretary,Dr Ngozi Anosike, the association condemned the dastardly act describing it as barbaric and violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of women.
“It is disheartening to note that Mrs Wakeago’s husband, Mr Chima had brought his girlfriend to their family house and when she queried the act the response she got was several machete cuts from her own husband and his girlfriend .
“Rivers NAWOJ is insisting that this case must not be allowed to slide away especially with the ongoing sensitization campaigns on sexual and gender based violence in the state.
“Wondering why some men are still in the habit of beating their wives and inflicting injuries on them, the association states that such men must be made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others.
“NAWOJ is happy that Mr Chima and his female lover are now cooling off in the Police custody and commends all who ensured their swift arrest but insists that Mrs Chima gets the justice she deserves.
“The association further condemned in strong terms the alarming spikes in the cases of physical and domestic violence against women by their spouses, and prays for Mrs Wakaego Chima’s speedy recovery.
