Khana Language in Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State is one of the languages spoken during the Pentecost resulted to spread the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This assertion was made in Bori yesterday by the Archdeacon in charge of the All Saints Cathedral, Diocese of Ogoni, the Venerable Elijah M. Subelo JP when a delegation of the Bible Society of Nigeria Rivers/Bayelsa Area led by its Chairman, Elder Omoni Visited the Church.
Venerable Subelo disclosed that the discovery was from a research he conducted from the various languages spoken at the Pentecost at Jerusalem during the beginning of the early Church as recorded in the Book of Acts Chapter two.
He stressed the importance of language in the place of Christian Community which he added ” is very crucial and enhance understanding the things of the Almighty God”.
The Archdeacon praised the efforts of the Society in translating the Written Word of God into various Nigerian languages and said “is a step in the right direction”.
Venerable Subelo gave an assurance that the vital issues raised by the delegation which include setting of Committee to review the Khana Bible , Membership Registration and regular support to the Society would be discussed with the Bishop.
Earlier in his address, the Rivers/Bayelsa Area Chairman of the Society, Elder Omoni Ayo-Tamuno had informed the Church that the BSN had forwarded the Khana Language Bible Materials for review and called on all Church Heads in Ogoni Area to come together and start work.
Elder Ayo-Tamuno observed with regret that the activities of the Bible Society in Ogoni land had not been active in the past 25 years and appealed to Denominational Leaders to do something fast to change the narrative and declared ” let me inform you in the three Ogoni Local Government Areas not even one Auxiliary is functioning out of over 1O auxiliaries in existence “.
The Chairman enjoined Christians in the Cathedral, to enroll in the various categories of membership, saying that from records there was no single registered member in the area and said that the Society would carry out more, advocacy visits to solicit support from churches in Ogoni Land.
Highlight, of the visit was the presentation of New Testament Bibles to the Cathedral and other BSB literatures.
