The National Assembly has put in place short and long term measures to safeguard lives and property in the complex.
A statement signed by Dr Tahir Mohammed Sani, Director, Admin on behalf of the Clerk of the National Assembly and copied to all principal officers directs “Security agencies and Sergeant at Arms Department to ensure that effective ( Monday 31st October,2022, all vehicles coming into the National Assembly are thoroughly searched” adding that drivers of vehicles shall by themselves, open the boots of their cars and submit their vehicles for thorough checks.
The statement said that the decision was the outcome of a meeting of the National Assembly Security Committee on Friday of which it noted several alerts on security threats.
It observed that the National Assembly is” vulnerable targets for attacks and resolved to take proactive measures geared towards saving lives and property.
