Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has faulted disparaging comments against his personality by some disgruntled persons in the state and urged the media to interrogate his own side of the story.
Uzodinma made the call during a gala nite in honour of participants of the 18th All Nigeria Editors Conference ( ANEC) in Government House,Owerri,.
He said though he is the most abused governor in the country, yet he would not be distracted in his journey to offer good governance to the people of the state.
The governor wondered how people would resort to dragging his personality to the level of low general intelligence when his family background proved otherwise and called for balanced reportage even as he wooed the synergy with the Media
” I come from a family of traditional rulers. My father was a traditional ruler and I’m related to the present traditional ruler in my community, coming from such a background, how can I be an idiot?
” I’m not saying that people should not write what they want they want to write but they should hear my story before they publish
Uzodinma urged a balance reportage of his administration even as he called for synergy with the Media.
At the media – studded gala nite, the governor emphasised the importance of the Editors as essential component of the democratic process.
He observed the impact of proprietors in the media industry on the practitioners saying a regulatory framework is necessary to check the challenges
” Democracy is the best form of government anywhere in the world and democracy cannot triumph if the Media do not live up to expectations”
