Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has told his colleague in Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to support the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC with votes.
Umahi said this while commissioning the Akpabu – Itu – Umudioga road project in Emohua Local Government Area on Tuesday..
The Ebonyi governor lauded Wike for opening his doors to political actors from different platforms some of whom he had promised logistics support, but said that what the APC needed was votes from the state for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, its presidential candidate and not logistics support
Umahi described Wike as a firm believer of equity justice, and fairness saying ” your fight is not personal,You are fighting to keep the country one” adding that history will be kind to him
He recalled that he( Umahi) was a key player in the formation of the Asaba accord where governors of Southern Nigeria agreed that the next president should come from the South.
Citing lack of integrity as reason for failure of that agreement in the Peoples Democratic Party PDP,Umahi commended Northern governors elected on the APC platform for their resolve that power should shift to the South and praised President Muhammadu Buhari for showing exemplary leadership.
Umahi who also praised Wike and his integrity group, otherwise known as G- 5 governors for giving a new direction to the country said ” many other governors want to be part of the G-5 because there is salvation”.
Earlier, Governor Wike revealed that Abubakar Atiku , the presidential candidate of the PDP in 2015 asked GoodLuck Jonathan to step down after the later pleaded with him to support his re- election bid.
Wike explained that Jonathan went to London to see Atiku at the Dorchester Hotel to woo hm back to the PDP and asked for support for his re-election but Atiku embarrassed Jonathan by asking him to relinquish his ticket for him.
The governor said that while no one is asking the party presidential candidate to relinquish his position, the right thing that the South should occupy the office of chairman must be done.
” We forget history. In 2015 when Jonathan as a sitting President, I’m not talking as a presidential candidate but as a sitting President, when he had won his primary, Jonathan went to London to Dorchester Hotel, he went to plead with Atiku Abubakar to come back to the party and support him
” You know the condition he gave Jonathan? He should relinquish his ticket not to run as the President of Nigeria. That was the presidential candidate of a ruling party. He gave him a condition, telling him to relinquish that ticket.
” Today, we are not saying the presidential candidate should relinquish his ticket,we are not being selfish,we are saying since you are now the presidential candidate,let our people take Chairmanship “
