The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 has announced adjustment of its communication approach to Community mobilisation to reach more Nigerians with life saving information to mitigate Covid-19 infection.
The Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19,Sani Aliyu, discosed this at the PTF briefing on Thursday
He said the essence of focusing on community mobilisation was to change perceptions and misinformation about Covid-19 with a view to changing peoples behavior and ensure that the best preventive measures applied across board.
” The PTF will be adjusting it’s communication approach and sensitisation strategy based on our polling data and grassroot intelligence . We are trying to reach more and more Nigerians with life saving information to mitigate covid infection.
“Iln this regard, the National Orientation Agency has been conducting community mobilisation and sensitisation Progressives in the hotspots local government areas linked with high burden of the disease, sensitising them on the use of facemasks at motor parks, motorized campaigns in markets and door to door public awareness campaigns as well as advocacy to community leaders.”
Aliyu said that the misconception that covid affects only a certain population should be discarded adding that covid is egalitarian virus which does not discriminate in its mode of infection.
.
“It doesn’t know whether you are rich or poor.It is absolutely not an elite disease. We know of many that are poor and see being infected with the virus .We know of many in the rural areas that are getting sick from covid. Many have contracted it and they aren’t even aware they have it. This is why it is important for us to continue to be very vigilant by taking steps to protect ourselves.” he said.
