The camp of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State appears to face depletion as one of the aides to the governor, Michael Akpobire, on Friday tendered his resignation.
Akpobire’s letter dated January 5 and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government was reportedly silent on the reason for resignation.However, sources familiar with the trend of events said he resigned to give support to Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo – Agege, the All Progressives Congress APC Gubernatorial candidate for Delta State.
He was the Executive Assistant to Okowa on Technical Education and Chairman of the Technical Education Board.
Akpobire, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enwhe/Okpolo Ward 9 in Isoko South Local Government Area. was formerly President of Delta State University Students’ Union.
The former aide led the Canaan Land Movement, one of the groups that campaigned for Okowa in the build-up to the 2015 general polls.
He served as Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs and was later a director in the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) during the Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration.
