….. As Yoruba Nation leader, Akintoye updates agitators death toll
The Lagos State Police Command has given a blow by blow account of what happened at the Yoruba Nation agitators rally in the Ojota area of Lagos on Monday morning.
In a statement signed by Benjamin Hudeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO said that there was unlawful gathering of people at the Ojota area under the pretext of a rally and
” A team of police officers, comprising Alausa Division and the Raid Response Squad ( RRS) promptly stepped in to disperse the unlawful gathering and prevent a breakdown of law and order.
” The miscreants attacked the police, shooting, and destroyed two vehicles in the process. One person has been confirmed dead, while two police officers shot by the miscreants are currently receiving treatment.
” Four persons have been arrested and investigations have commenced.
Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored to the area. Lagosians are urged to go about their lawful businesses as measures have been put in place to prevent further breakdown of law and order, and keen monitoring of the situation continues “.
While the police statement revealed that one person died in the incident, Prof. Steven Banji Akintoye, leader of the Yoruba Nation said two deaths were recorded during the clash.
Speaking through the Yoruba self- determination Channel on YouTube shortly after the incident, Akintoye said ” We learned that two young men have been killed as a result of the police fire”
