Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has bared his mind on the current currency swap introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and its attendant consequences on the Nigerian people.
In the light of this, the governor advised President Muhammadu Buhari to do what he can to ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
Wike made this known Friday while flagging off the PDP campaign in Okrika, Okrika Local Government Area of the state.
He said the president should beware of people who come around him to ask for approval of ill-fated policies such as the naira swap along with scarcity of fuel at this period pointing out that such persons do not mean well for Mr President.
According to him,if the cash policy was designed to curb vote buying and check corruption, the timing was wrong as events in the country showed that those who are hit by the policy are the innocent Nigerians and not the political class as it intended to achieve..
Wike wondered why the CBN governor did not introduce the Naira redesign and swap before his intent to veer into the political ring to contest for office of the president and would only realise the beauty of it after his aspiration for presidency failed.
The Rivers Governor said he means well for Buhari and wishes him to finish well and advised him not do anything that would jeopardise his good intentions adding that the CBN policy is anti – people and since the people elected them into office, the best they should offer is to improve their situation and not to worsen it.
He said” the policy came to suffer the people who elected us” adding that it is causing problem,as people can’t .buy fuel and cannot buy food to eat.
Wike expressed the hope that the president as the father of the nation would not hesitate to turn things around for the good of the common man.
” I know that Mr President has a good intention but there are those people who believe that they know more than everybody and throw the country into chaos and that’s what we are suffering now.
” I believe that Mr President as a father who would want to end up like I’m going to end up well, finishing well,l know that you have a second thought to alleviate the sufferings of innocent people. It is very key.
On the issue of preferred presidential candidate, the governor asked Okrikans if they knew where they were going and the response was a thunderous yes.
” Where we are going we are aware. So since all of us are aware and the leadership would discuss with you,If they like let them say this is where I am going to, it’s their business if you like guess from today to tommorow, it’s their business, it’s their headache. What you’re guessing is your own. I’m not interested.Me and my people, the Rivers people we know where we are going “
The governor also tasked the people of Ward 4 in the Local Government to win the election and bring the results to him for a prize and enjoined all members to collect their PVCS and vote overwhelmingly for the party in the February 25 and March 11 elections.
On the cabal supporting the PDP candidates, Wike said” this election will not be based on cabal assurance but the people’s’ assurance and lambasted those from the LGA who occupied privileged positions in the past such as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Secretary to the State Government ( SSG) for failing to attract projects to the area but have become champions of mobilsing people all of a sudden because of cancellation of campaign venue and advised them to translate their so- called mobilsation into votes.
The governor used the occasion to announce the upgrade of the Koniju Chieftaincy stool occupied by Chief Nelson Oputibeya to first class .
Earlier,Sir Simiialayi Fubara, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, had said that there would be no need to campaign to the people of Okrika for votes since he is an adopted son of the land and Okrika is PDP.
He assured that he would ensure that peace is sustained in the LGA and ongoing projects would be completed while new projects would be sited .He promised to work with the Local Government and Traditional Councils to achieve development of the area.
