The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has asked the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his party to stop playing politics with the pains Nigerians are currently going through over the new Naira policy.
National President of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima who said this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos said that the former Vice President stands alone.
Abubakar, had on Wednesday amid the groaning of Nigerians in accessing the naira in a statement through his campaign office advised the CBN not to extend the Feb. 10 deadline for the exchange of old naira notes with new ones saying any further extension would destroy the purpose and objective of the policy.
.
Recall that the CBN earlier fixed January 31,2023 as deadline for the exchange of old currency to new ones but the inability of Nigerians to access the naira in banks Automated Teller Machines and Point of Sale outlets made the President , Muhammadu Buhari to approve extension of the exchange to February 10,2023.
Despite the extension, the problem of scarcity of cash persists making many prominent persons including the All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Candidate,Bola Tinubu, Governors and Religious leaders to call on the CBN and Buhari to review the naira policy which they described as draconic, defective and anti – people coming at a time so close to election.
Towards this development, the
AYCF President said
“Former VP Atiku’s call was out of place because it is coming on the heels of growing complaints about the kind of sabotage that is causing untold hardship to Nigerians over this policy.
“Atiku stands alone in his call on the CBN not to review the deadline.
“He is against prominent Nigerians who made passionate appeals for deadline review, notably the Sultan of Sokoto, the Senate and House of Representatives leaders and experts.
“What purpose will the current difficulties people are facing serve Atiku? Why would he rather identify with the need to let the difficulties faced by especially rural folks continue and for how long?”
