Governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara States have filed a contempt proceeding against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele for non compliance with the Supreme Court order extending the deadline for the use of old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes.
The three state governors were the original plaintiffs in the suit against the Naira redesign policy introduced by the Federal Government.
In the contempt proceeding filed by a team of lawyers from the three states which is before the Supreme Court, the governors cautioned the AGF and Emefiele about the consequences of their continued failure to comply with the apex court’s order made on February 3, 2023.
The matter is awaiting consideration of the Apex court on Wednesday..
The Supreme Court will also on Wednesday hear the case on Naira redesign filed by the governors of Zamfara, Kaduna and Kogi and later joined by Kano, Kaduna,Ogun, Lagos,Ekiti and Ondo.
