
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared Siminalayi Fubara, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Rivers State as governor elect in last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.
Fubara polled..a total of 302,614… to beat his closest contender,Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress APC who came second with a total of 95,274 votes.
Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party SDP polled 45,981 to place a distant third position while Beatrice Itubo of the Labour party polled 22,224 .
The PDP candidate won in all 23 Local Government Areas in towered margin to be declared elected while other candidates merely trailed behind
The Returning Officer in declaring the winner said that the election was contested and having scored the highest votes and met the two third requirement that Fubara is returned Governor-elect of Rivers State.
The Opobo- born technocrat turned politician was the Accountant General of Rivers State.
During his electioneering campaign, Fubara had promised on continuing from where his predecessor stopped while also promising to consolidate on the scorecard of the Wike administration in project delivery and human resources development.
