Retired Police personnel are threatening threatened to stage a protest on May 29 over the failure of the Nig Police Force ( NPF) to pay six months salary arrears owed to them.
The threat which began in March last year resurfaced last week with more seriousness is focused on denting the image of the Inspector General of Police ( IGP) according to Lagos State Intelligence Bureau.
The report Tagged ” Pay Arrears Or Go ” protest Targeted at the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba ,CFR ,” the newly retired police officers whose rank ranged from Inspector,ASP and DSP reportedly carried out their plan in Police Barracks across some states of the country.
The states where the plot was hatched are Abia, Nasarawa, Benue, Katsina Lagos,Niger and Cross River.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari approved 20% Salary increase to police personnel with effect from January 2022.
But only one month payment was made to every police officer from the list rank which is constable to IG, while six months arrears are still pending.
According to a source within the ranks, from January, only four months arrears was paid to the junior personnel ranging from constables, sergeants to unconfirmed inspectors while inspectors that have been confirmed are yet to be paid thereby planning to embark on protest.
The source added that a lot of officers serving and retired are unhappy over the non payment of their arrears. They are of the view that the arrears should be paid when they are still in service and not when they retire adding that they are either paid or they embark on protest..
