The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has suspended Hudu Yunusa Ari from the 2023 supplementary governorship election in Adamawa state
This is contained in a letter signed by INEC Secretary, Rosé Oriarian- Anthony on Monday .
According to the letter,, the Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of the office in the state with immediate effect.
The directive comes one day after the electoral umpire annulled the declaration of Aishatu Dahiru popularly called Binani as Governor -elect of Adamawa state.
Yunusa Ari, the erstwhile Resident Commissioner of that state had declared Binani as governor elect but the National Headquarters described the declaration as illegal and a nullity saying he was not empowered by law to declare the results as such power is vested in the Returning officer.of the state.
But while the supplementary election Scenario is raising dust from the quarters of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Binani's party, the All Progressives Congress APC has expressed satisfaction over the declaration.
Speaking on Arise TV earlier on Monday, A lawmaker from the state,Senator Elisha Abbo said that the declaration was in order.
Abbo blamed INEC for the discrepancies and recalled an incident of irregularities in Fufore Local Government Area of the March 18 gubernatorial election of which, the APC had requested the commission to review the results but the commission said it was bound by law not to review or nullify results that had already been declared.
He said, given that Binani has been declared governor elect, that the commission has no power to nullify it.
For now,no one knows what will happen in the North East State.
