Two of the abducted Chibok School girls have escaped from their captors,Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa, Borno State.
Current matters learnt that the girls escaped on Sunday following serious military operations in the area.
The girls were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus.
“One is from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village,” current matters gathered.
The Head of the Intelligence Unit of the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Hadinkai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, had while giving a breakdown of the number of the abducted Chibok girls said out of the 276 ,178 have returned while 98 are still in captivity.
“Out of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018. Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total of 178 girls out of captivity and 98 remaining in Boko Haram captivity.”
The return of the two girls brings the number of the girls still in captivity to 96.
On 14 April,2014, Boko Haram terrorists invaded the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, and abducted 276 school girls who were writing exams. Most of the girls were reportedly under 18 when the abduction occurred.
