Three members of a robbery gang who attempted to rob a new generation bank, in Okeho,Oyo State, were burnt to death by angry mob on Wednesday.
A statement by the Police spokesman of Oyo Police Command, Gbenga Fadeyii, said the robbers arrived the bank premises at about 3pm on Wednesday and gained access to the bank hall by using dynamites to blow up the security door.
Fadeyi said that a collaborative effort from the Police Tactical teams,vigilantes and hunters foiled the robbery attack as the robbers failed to cart away money.
He said while the robbers fled the scene in different directions, the bus they drove into the bank somersaulted as they were trying to escape in it.
Fadeyi stated that the robbery suspects were seized and set on fire by the mob.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police has directed all the Police Tactical teams, including the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Mobile Police Force and all police Divisions around the Okeho command, to be on the trail of the remaining robbers who escaped.
