Following the blow by blow account at a Church Service on how he cheated death in the hands of unseen enemies, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike revealed that indeed, some persons desperately tried to take him out .
Shortly after the former governor narrated his ordeal which he had borne for years, current matters went to the street to gather comments from some residents of Port Harcourt, the state capital and the responses though separate were unanimous.
Ikem,a resident of marine base lamented that the ex – governor was exposed to such wickedness and asked where the aides were when he was poisoned.
” I didn’t know that his Excellency, Wike was going through a lot. Thank God the devil didn’t succeed in taking his life. But where were his ADC, Orderly, CSO during such periods, who wants to kill him? He asked
Soso, a resident of old GRA axis said it was despicable that some persons for reasons of personal interest would go the miles to snuff out life from a fellow human being especially,a governor ” I’m shocked by the news,I watched the program on Channels and I felt bad that someone tried to get him out. Who tried to do that? I thought they go out with security? Evil people everywhere” She said
Wike, during his family thanksgiving on Sunday at the St Peter’s Anglican church Rumeprikom,Obio Akpor and attended by dignitaries of different walks of life revealed that he was poisoned at the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2018.
The former governor said he was flown to Beirut Lebanon by midnight to receive urgent medical attention.
According to him, he was told by the medical team that the poison had destroyed his internal organs ( liver, and kidney) but the following day after receiving some medication and,by God’s intervention, he was told that his organs had started functioning.
“God was in charge, everybody who knew how we came to power in 2015, knew it was turbulent. But God saw us through. When you are in office, many people think things are going well with you. Nobody wants to find out the problems you are facing as a human.
“In December 2018, it was a day my former Chief of Staff was going to have Thanksgiving. I was to attend that Thanksgiving. From that Sunday I never came down from my room. It was bad. But those who attended the January 1st state banquet of 2019 will know that I never spoke that day. I just sat down there and told the Deputy Governor to speak on my behalf. I thought it was over.”
He said the doctors discharged him after about a week and asked him to return home.
According to him, from that point, everybody became a suspect as he became cautious of his movement particularly during the campaign period.
The ex governor also recalled his wife’s cancer trauma and how he tried to quit the presidential race but his wife encouraged him to continue with his campaign .
Wike also revealed that after the primary when he was on a trip to Abuja in the company of his wife, he got information that fire gutted his wife’s bedroom and destroyed everything she had .
“Being a strong woman, my wife never showed it. But today my wife is hale and hearty. The cancer incident was the one I knew that God had done all for me.”
Another incident he recalled that was a close shave with death that God saved him was aboard a flight to Abuja
He said while he and his friends, Marcus and Olaka were travelling after the presidential primary, one of the engines of the aircraft exploded 15 minutes after take-off.
“15 minutes of take off at the airforce base, we heard an explosion. They locked the cockpit. One engine is gone and the pilot said it was safer to turn back to Port Harcourt. Before we landed there were many ambulances and fire service trucks lined up. We landed safely by the Grace of God. I didn’t tell anybody,” he said.
Speaking further,he said all the gang up against him failed saying ” I don’t look back ” because I know I’m protected everywhere”
By the series of unforeseen deadly attacks on the former, it becomes useful to ask the question, who wants Wike Dead?
