Governor of Rivers State,Siminalayi Fubara is
requesting for approval a supplementary budget of N220 billion from the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This is contained in a letter he sent to the lawmakers and read at plenary Friday by the Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.
The letter revealed that the Governor is seeking approval of the N220 billion to execute the proposed Port Harcourt Ring Road Project.
Consequently, the House has given first reading to the supplementary appropriation bill.
Leading the debate, Leader of the house, Hon. Edison Edison, argued that the supplementary budget was necessary because the 2023 appropriation law failed to capture the fund for the ring road project which is expected to ease traffic and facilitate development in the state.
According to him, the amount appropriated in the 2023 budget was inadequate to fund the ring road project hence the need for the supplementary budget.
