The Federal Government has filed a two -count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Federal Government in the charge sheet on Friday evening accused Emefiele of possessing a single barrel short gun without a license.
The government said that the offence is contrary to section 4 of the Firearms Act CAP F ( 28) of the laws of the Federation 2004.punishable under Section 27 subsection 1(b) of the same Act.
Emefiele was also accused of having in his possession,one hundred and twenty three ( 123) rounds of live ammunition cartridges without a license which is contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act CAP F 28 of the laws of the federation 2004 punishable under Section 27 subsection 1(b)2 of the same Act.
The case is expected to be decided next week.
Emefiele has been in DSS custody since June 9 after he was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu for gross financial misconduct , economic sabotage and other criminal offences.
On Thursday, June 13, a court sitting in Abuja ordered the Department of State Services DSS to either charge him to court or release him.
On Friday, July 14, another ordered his unconditional release.
However, with the new charges, it is clear that Emefiele is not off the DSS hook yet.
