…as House of Representatives Asks IGP To Prosecute those involved.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the NDLEA to speedily and thoroughly investigate the killing of a two – year – old boy, Ivan Omhonrina by stray Bullet during a raid by NDLEA operatives on July 13 in Okpannam, Delta State..
While expressing sadness and condoling the family over the painful loss of the toddler, the president , in a statement on Tuesday by his spokesman, Dele Alake, the NDLEA management to ensure that the culprit is thoroughly punished.
President Tinubu charged security agents to be more professional and careful when conducting their operations to avoid further deaths of innocent people.
“I mourn the death of little Ivan Omhonrina and sympathise with his parents for the painful experience of losing an innocent child in a most tragic manner.”
“Ivan did not deserve to die that way. We must ensure the incident did not end like that and that what happened to Ivan does not happen to any other person again.
“I also pray for the quick recovery of Eronmonsele, who was reportedly injured in that unfortunate event.
“That incident is unacceptable. We must unravel those who foisted agony on the Omhonrinas and ensure they are brought to justice,”
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has asked the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to fish out the NDLEA officer responsible for the death of master Ivan Omhonrina.
The House, during plenary on Tuesday resolved, following a motion moved by Unyime Idem ( PDP Akwa -Ibom) on the tragic incident of July 13, to take over the case of NDLEA officers involved in the alleged killing of the toddler.
The House also resolved that NDLEA and all other law enforcement agencies should provide regular training and sensitisation programs for their officers on the appropriate use of firearms, conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques and respect for human rights.
