The Resident Minister of the Christ Church, Port Harcourt, the Very Reverend David Ama Kalu, has pledged the support of the Church to the Bible Society of Nigeria.
He made the pledge yesterday when the Executive Members of the Rivers/ Bayelsa Area of the Society led by its Chairman, Mr Omoni Ayo-Tamuno BSN-SM, paid him a courtesy visit.
The Very Revd Kalu said “it is imperative for the Church to sustain its traditional support to the Society that is in the fore front of making the Bible available for the Church of Christ”.
According to him “the Society is known for its vital role in translating the Word of God into indigenous Nigerian languages and as such need the support of all preachers of the Gospel of Christ at all times,”
The Very Reverend Kalu who is a Special Member of the Society hinted that “the Church will meet and appropriately decide how to support the BSN financially” and requested “the Society to forward the available Bibles and their cost to enable members to place orders for purchase”.
This, according to him, would enhance the Bible Distribution Scheme of the Society.
The Resident Minister also challenged the leadership of the Area to work towards splitting the Area into two as Rivers and Bayelsa.
Earlier in his speech ,the Area Chairman, Omoni Ayo-Tamuno, explained that the visit was initiated to appreciate the faithful support of the Church in the past years and to welcome the Resident Minister who recently assumed the leadership of the Church.
Ayo-Tamuno, while calling on the Church for sustained support, appealed for greater support in the area of Bible distribution.
This he said, “is needed to enable the Area to attain the Bible distribution target of the National”.
The Chairman stated that “the Area is in a very critical condition of being scrapped as an Area or merged with one of the neighbouring states if we failed to distribute 7500 copies of the Bible annually”
Elder Ayo-Tamuno also extended a formal invitation to the Resident Minister as a Spiritual Father to the forth coming Life Members Conference slated to take place at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church Port Harcourt on October 5, 2023.
