The Nigerian Government has called on the Super Falcons to continue to strive towards raising the country’s flag high at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in Australia, New Zealand; even as they
stunned the host pre- tournament favourites Australia, in
their match on Thursday.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, gave the advice in Abuja in a congratulatory message over the 3-2 victory in favour of Nigeria.
He stated that Nigerians have been following the games with keen interest and delight at their display of skill and team work since the beginning of the Competition.
We have followed your Games and want to thank you for doing the nation proud, thus putting a smile on the faces of Nigerians
While reminding them that the journey is still a long one, the Permanent Secretary, affirmed that the Super Falcons have started well and therefore deserved the prayers and support of all Nigerians.
We commend you, your coaches and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the good job done so far. You cannot afford to rest on your oars. Take the next game against the Republic of Ireland with full determination to succeed as you took your first two games. Give it your very best, which is your 100 percent assurance to win. We are solidly behind you”, he said.
Alhaji Ismaila assured further that the Ministry will continue to create an enabling environment for sports development in the country so as to enable its athletes not only to showcase their sporting talents to the world, but also continue to raise the nation’s flag high through podium finishes.
With the Super Falcons stunning out host Australia 3-2, Nigeria now moves to top Group B in the Tournament.
