The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport in partnership with five other clubs has donated sixty Delivery Kits to pregnant mothers at the Model Primary Health Center, Okija Street, in Mgbundukwu community PHALGA, Rivers State.
President of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Seaport, Victoria Ockiya-Jackson said the kits also known as Mama Packs jointly paid for by the six various clubs, were freely distributed to sixty less privileged pregnant mothers who could hardly afford the essential delivery items and are close to their delivery dates.
Ockiya-Jackson said the gesture is part of the club’s project under the Rotary International area of focus of Mother and Child Health, to help improve the mental health and wellbeing of the mother and unborn child and also to give them hope for a better healthy life.
The Rotarian President who led members of her clubs to distribute the surprise packages to the pregnant mothers, during a health talk advised the pregnant mothers to engage in active sex with their spouses so as to enhance smooth delivery and father-and-child bonding.
She said such act also has the capacity to reduce cases of maternal mortality.
Some of the pregnant mothers who benefitted from the gesture said the gifts have relieved them from mental stress they were experiencing as a result of not being able to afford some of the delivery items they needed. They said the timing for was right while described Rotary as a “Life saver”.
Our correspondent reports that other clubs in the joint project include Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Esara City, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt garden City and Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport.
Meanwhile,all is now set for the installation ceremony of Chris Ugochukwu Oguzie as the fourth President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom, Rotary International District 9141.
A statement by the Media Aide to the President said Chris Ugochukwu Oguzie will be taking over the wheels of leadership of the club from his predecessor Chris Izidor Ugechi who during his tenure won several enviable awards of recognition for the club through some life-transforming projects and exceptional leadership style.
The Statement revealed the auspicious event which will take place at the L.A Kings Hotel, Stadium road by 12noon on Saturday 29th July, will witness veterans in the Rotary world and display of pomp and glamour by the elegant Women in Rotary which the celebrant is an affable Grand Patron to.
The Statement said new Board members of the clubs will also be formally inducted while some ground breaking projects the club will carry out in the new Rotary year which is expected to #CreateHopeintheworld and address #Mentalhealth will be unveiled.
