Gunmen who kidnapped the Director News of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation RSBC,Mrs Priestba Wokocha led her out of the dungeon after one week in captivity.
A source told the publication that the gunmen who operate around the Rivers South East Senatorial District freed their captive after collecting an undisclosed amount from her family.
Meanwhile,Members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors NGE visited Mrs Wokocha on Sunday to celebrate her return .
The members prayed against any reoccurrence and wished Mrs Wokocha a quick return to duty
On her part, Wokocha thanked the delegation for the visit and efforts to ensure her safe release.
Mrs Wokocha was abducted two Thursdays ago while returning from office.
A family source said her car she was traveling in broke down around the Golf Estate highway, Trans Amadi in the night and,in an attempt to find a solution to the problem, the kidnappers in a white Toyota Corolla came and whisked her away.
A traumatized media community called the police and were assured of her safe release.
However, the payment of ransom to the kidnappers to secure her release leaves much to be desired and we are forced to ask what really happened? Why did the police confirm the release when ransom was paid? What is the work of the Anti – Robbery ,Kidnapping Squad in the state? Is the role of the police in the prevention and detection of crime and apprehension offenders under serious threat?
What is the role of government in all of this? Sad it is that a Director working under a censored public office who earns less than $400 per month would be subjected to life with kidnappers in a difficult terrain for a period of 7 days without matching orders to ensure her quick freedom.
