
Military Chiefs under the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS have arrived in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, for an emergency meeting over the recent coup in the Republic of Niger.
The meeting is currently being held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
However, while Defence Chiefs from Togo, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Gambia, Cote’Divoire, Cape Verde and the Republic of Benin are participating in the meeting, those from Mali, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso and Niger are absent.
The countries had earlier taken a stand against ECOWAS threats on the coupists in Niger.
The meeting being chaired by the chairman of ECOWAS military chief, Gen. Christopher Musa is at the instance of leaders of ECOWAS members States to restore the democratic order in Niger Republic.
ECOWAS leaders met on Sunday in Abuja and gave a 7- day Ultimatum to the Niger Military Junta to release and reinstate the seized democratically elected president, Mohammed Bazoum.
The leaders also slammed sanctions ranging from cutting of energy supply, declaration of no fly zone and closing of borders to seizures of assets belonging to Niger.
