Voluntary Uniform Organisations in the State have been called upon to double their efforts to instill moral discipline in the youths.
Rivers State Commissioner for Women Affairs Dr Roseline Apawari Uranta made the call yesterday when the Girl Guides Association Rivers State Branch led by its State Commissioner, Lady Daba Harry paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner in her office.
Dr Uranta expressed delight in the activities and programmes of the Association in educating the girl child in the society.
The Commissioner said “I have been longing to join the Association as a member when I was much younger, but was not able due to other commitments”.
She further said, ” now providence has made it easier as I am now appointed a Matron as a result of my position as Commissioner”.
Dr Uranta promised that on their request to see her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara she would facilitate the visit.
The Commissioner assured the Leadership that her Ministry would always partner with them to improve the lot of the girl child to take her rightful position in the community.
She then thanked the Association for the honor of appointing her as their Matron.
Earlier in her speech, the State Commissioner of the Association, Lady Daba Harry had congratulated the Commissioner on her appointment and offered to cooperate with her to succeed.
Lady Harry said “the Association is prepared to create the needed environment for girls and young women to develop their full potentials to serve the Society as responsible citizens”.
She further said, “we will positively impact on the girl child to be an asset to herself and the community at all times”.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of the Association’s Uniform materials to the Commissioner as their Matron.
