…..urges communities along Rivers Benue and Niger up to Bayelsa to be on alert.
Thirteen states and Fifty communities in the country are likely to experience heavy rainfall that may lead to severe flooding in the next 4 days,according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) forecast.
The Agency said that the states that are expected to be most affected are in the Northern region .
NEMA Lagos Territorial Coordinator,Mr Ibrahim Farinloye revealed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
The states he said include Kano with communities like Sumaila and Kunchi, likely to be affected
According to Farinloye, other states are Kebbi with communities like Argungu, while Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, Katsina in Katsina state are also in the list of rain and flood alert.
Also included in the Flood warning is Niger state with Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa communities, as well as Kwara State, and Kosubosu community.
He said “Zamfara State, with such communities as Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi; Bauchi State, with Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, Misau; Taraba, with Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro, and Borno State, with Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, Kukawa will be affected,”
Farinloye also listed Adamawa with Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, Song, communities to be affected, with Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina, Potiskum in Yobe state also on the red alert.
The NEMA Territorial Coordinator listed Gombe State with Nafada and Jigawa, with Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, Miga communities as states and communities likely to be affected.
He added that due to the rise in the water levels of Rivers Benue and Niger, communities along the two Rivers, up to Bayelsa were advised to take precautionary measures in the coming days.
