
The National Grid has given way resulting in total blackout in states across the country.
The collapse which is the first under the Bola Tinubu administration, occurred in the early hours of Thursday with a thunderous outage in the South East and South South
According to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), the collapse occurred around 12:40am and the Transmission Company stations are currently out of supply .
“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.”
Power transmission was said to have dropped to 273 megawatts of electricity coming from two out of the over 27 electricity generation.
It will be recalled that the National Grid collapsed many times under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Before Thursday’s total blackout,residents in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital said they experienced daily interruptions in power supply.
A barber ,James Ona who spoke to our reporter lamented the loss of power “at a time like this”.
He said ” We have bought 10 litres of fuel this morning for almost N6000 and it won’t be enough , If we charge our customers higher,we will run out of business. I don’t know when these problems will go away ” He said.
For Caleb, a laundry vendor , ” It’s difficult to run this business on diesel. I have customers clothes and there’s no light, and the price of diesel is out of my reach now so what am I supposed to do? I pray they sort this light problem immediately so we can manage our lives. He said.
