The newly appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,Dr Ollayemi Cardoso is a financial expert,a chartered stockbroker whose experience in the financial sector spans over 3 decades.He was former governor Chairman of the Board of Directors of Citibank Nigeria,
Cardoso was appointed the first Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget for Lagos State under the Tinubu ‘s government in 1999.
In this capacity,he wrote and monitored the implementation of the blueprint which catalysed economic development in the world’s sixth largest megacity.
He has served on the board of several leading companies including Texaco and Chevron Oil Plc.
Cardoso is a member of the Belgian-based Cities Alliance Think Tank, which aims to shape and influence policy and decision making on urban development in Africa and has strong relationships with key international donor agencies.
He holds a first degree is from the University of Aston, United Kingdom and his second degree from Harvard University, USA.
In 2017, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration by his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of “his outstanding contributions to business and society.”
On Friday, September 15,2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN .
