Senator Elisha Abbo who represented Adamawa North in the 9th and 10th Senate until Monday October 17 has blamed his sack on the Senate President, Godswiill Akpabio.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Monday nullified the election of Abbo and declared his rival,Amos Yohanna as winner of the February 25 Senatorial District election.
But, shortly after his sack, Abbo organised a press conference in his residence in Abuja where alleged that he was removed from the senate for refusing to support Akpabio ‘s bid .
He revealed that more senators who opposed Akpabio would also have their mandates taken from me
” At my level,I can’t afford to be flippant and I don’t speculate. At my level,I cannot speculate. What Iam telling you is authentic, “
According to Abbo” a very highly placed Nigerian citizen told me that five of us were slated for removal. I would be going and Orji Uzor Kalu would follow me and we would all go. That is a fact ” he said
Abbo described his sack as” a coup on democracy” but prided himself as winning the hearts of the people at the polls
But, reacting to Abbo’s claims of Akpabio having a hand in his court trauma, Akpabio denied the allegations saying the sacked lawmaker was merely looking for a scapegoat for his woes.
” It is unfortunate if he actually said that Akpabio was responsible for his removal. That’s the swan song a man looking for scapegoats
” The Court of Appeal across the country decides cases based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and evidence advanced by petitioners. The Senate President has no reason to witch – hunt any of his colleagues ” Akpabio’s Spokesman,Esime Eyibor said while addressing the press.
In the petition filed against Senator Abbo, Yohanna had challenged malpractices and discrepancies in total vote cast and documentation among others.
