The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of N40M on Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN for trying to present a motion compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to issue a certificate of return to Emeka Ihedioha who was removed as governor of Imo state by the Apex court in 2019.
Ozekhome ,in the motion claimed that the fresh Certificate of Return was to enable Ihedioha to spend four years unlawfully spent by Uzodinma
He further claimed that the All Progressives Congress APC had no candidate in the 2019 Imo Governorship election, therefore, Uzodinma ought not to have been made a governor on the party platform
But In a ruling on Tuesday, the court described Ozekhome’s motion as strange, frivolous baseless, unwarranted, vexatious and irritating
It held that the motion was a calculated design to demonize the court and struck out the suit.
Subsequently,Justice Tijani Abubakar ordered Ozekhome to personally pay the N40 million to four respondents he took to court
They are Uche Nnadi of the Action People’s Party APP,Uche Nwosu and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
