Days after President Bola Tinubu reeled out Resolution on Rivers Governor, Siminilayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike to achieve peace in Rivers state, mammoth Crowd comprising members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and others marched in solidarity for Fubara on Friday.
The groups assembled in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt early in the morning to register their grievances against what they said was obnoxious resolution imposed by President Tinubu on governor Fubara.
A lady who preferred to be called “Classy “told current matters that it was unfair that the president would interfere in the crisis making one party to be disadvantaged.
” How can the president do this? I personally have great respect for him for the manner he governed Lagos state but it is different here. The resolution means continued suffering of the people. We are happy with the governor for what he’s been doing for the people of the state. Look at the N100,000 for civil servants, most people have received alerts”, She said.
Fubara and Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT have been at loggerheads with each other months after inauguration on May 29 following unclear power tussle and collision which sent 27 members of the state Assembly to quit the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, to the All Progressives Congress APC .
The crisis also took its toll on the structure of the House of Assembly complex as first, there was a blast on one side of the complex and then a complete demolition
The crisis also resulted in the resignation of no fewer than 9 commissioners from the state executive council.
With growing calls on the president to intervene, president Tinubu held a meeting on Monday at the villa with about 150 persons representing each side of the divide and some principal officers of the Tinubu’s administration .
At the end of the day,a peace deal was made with 8 Resolutions first of which is the withdrawal of all court cases by the warring factions.
Other take aways from the resolution included the recognition of the Amaewhule led Assembly, and reinstatement of the commissioners who tendered their resignations.
