The Senate has handed down a three month suspension to Senator Abdul Ningi ( PDP Bauxhi Central) for an incisive interview with the BBC Hausa service on the 2024 Appropriation Act.
Ningi had told the BBC that the 2024 budget which was originally passed by the Senate was N25 trillion and that what was assented by President Bola Tinubu was NN28 trillion leaving a humongous N3.7trillion added to the budget without proper appropriation.
However, when the motion was raised and debated on the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday, the Senate overwhelmingly voted for the suspension of Ningi.
Ningi is in addition to the 3- months suspension required by his colleagues to show remorse and tender a letter of apology to the senate.
The Senate has also debarred Ningi from accessing the National Assembly under the period of his punishment .
Earlier, the Majority leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele described the action of Ningi as a coup on the Nigerian nation and moved that appropriate action should be taken against the embattled senator in line with the rules of the senate.
