
Nigeria Association of Women Journalists( NAWOJ )Rivers State Chapter has elected Precious Ahiakwo of the Surveillance Newspaper as Secretary and Elizabeth Amadi of Rivers State Television ) RSTV)as Treasurer
The duo emerged unopposed after a bye-election conducted by the State NUJ, with directives from the National body of NAWOJ
The bye-election was conducted in line with the NUJ constitution months after the election of the Chairperson and other executives of the state chapter left the two important positions in the Association vacant.
Inaugurating the new members of the Exco,the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Stanley Job, charged them to work with the state NAWOJ Chairperson to sustain peace and unity in the Association.
Job also charged the two new officers, to ensure they carry aggrieved members along inorder to realize the objectives of the Association.
On her part, the Deputy National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Dr. Lilian Okonkwo-Ogabu, while congratulating the two new executive officers, commended the NAWOJ National Chairperson Aisha Bura for ensuring peace and tranquility in the process.
Okonkwo-Ogabu also commended the state council of the NUJ for conducting a free and fair bye-election while calling for peaceful leadership at the NAWOJ state level.
Those present at the inauguration include the NUJ state secretary, Ike Wigodo; NUJ state auditor, Ominini Leslie Wokoma and NUJ state Treasurer, Doris Morrison.
Also present were NAWOJ state Deputy Chairperson, Daba Benebo; NAWOJ state Assistance Secretary, Edith Chukwu; the Financial Secretary, Anita Ogona, among others.
