Justice Suzette Wike has been listed by the National Judicial Council NJC as one of the nominees to occupy vacant positions in the Court of Appeal.
Following the recent elevation of judges of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court and retirement and death of some judges which created a vacuum, the NJC at its 92nd meeting held on March 27,,2024, prioritised for consideration,the judges nominated by Judicial officers of higher courts in the country.
Suzette is the wife of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja and former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike.
She was appointed Magistrate by the Peter Odili administration and rose to become a Chief Magistrate Grade 11 in 2009 and promoted to a judge of the High Court in 2012 under the Amaechi administration.
Suzette will be the second female judge from Rivers state after Justice Mary Odili to be elevated to the Court of Appeal.
Recall that Justice Odili was elevated to the Supreme Court from the Court of Appeal where she served for 7 years. ( 2004-2011)
