Following the bullying incident in the Leads British School Abuja that went viral on social media Monday,the management of the School,, has temporarily shut down the institution to properly probe the incident.
A social media user @mooyeeeeeee had posted two videos on X of a female student she identified as Maryam Hassan being slapped by another female student.
The author of that post had also drawn the attention of the public to the recurring anomalies of the institution and indecision in matters relating to bullying.
This generated negative response towards the school with netizens advocating sanctions on the bully and the school authorities.
However,at a meeting on Tuesday, the school authorities announced a 3-day closure to enable them to investigate the matter
Earlier on Monday, the school in a statement said its counselling unit was helping the vulnerable student to overcome the trauma while assuring safety and a conducive environment for learning.
“We are committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all our students. Hence, upon learning of the incident, we initiated the process of reaching out to the victim and family with a view to providing support, including access to counselling services to help them cope with the emotional and psychological impact of the incident.
“Additionally, we will be working with the perpetrators and their families, offering counselling and disciplinary measures to address their behaviour which has no place in society.
“We have also immediately initiated an investigation, appointing a dedicated team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. The team has been gathering information, including reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses, to understand the full scope of the incident and identify the immediate and remote causes.”the statement added.
