President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance,Wale Edun and his Education Counterpart,Prof. Tahir Mamman to pay the four months withheld salaries owed the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria,SSANU, and the Non -Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions,( NASU)
The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC ,Joe Ajaero dropped the hint to reporters after a meeting of the organised Labour with President Tinubu at the presidential villa on Thursday.
Ajaero said that the union reported the Commissioner of Police FCT,CP Bennett Igwe to the President for forcefully blocking the protest of the University workers in Abuja on Thursday.
Current matters learnt that the leadership of the Joint Action Committee ( JAC) of the two unions had started addressing members at the Unity Fountain in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja when the commissioner of police arrived and warned the protesters that the protest would not be allowed to go on.
SSANU and NASU had threatened that if the withheld salaries are not paid, they would have no other option but to shut down educational institutions in the country.
