The All Progressives Congress APC,in Edo State has suspended its campaign following an accident on the party’s convoy on Tuesday.which killed two policemen.
Reports say the accident occurred when a trailer crashed into the convoy at Benin Bye-Pass.
A statement issued by the party after the incident said, the gravity of the accident and the fatalities involved led to the suspension of further campaign.
Former National Chairman of the APC,Adams Oshiomole and the party flagbearer were said to have escaped the incident unhurt.
An ill-fated car which went out of control and plunged into a ditch was seen at the scene of the accident.
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,had fixed September 19 for the Edo governorship election.
The parties cleared to contest particularly the the ruling party, The Peoples Democratic party PDP, and the opposition, the APC had been involved in intensed campaigns at the local government levels to appeal to voters consciousness with messages that are synonymous with electioneering campaigns to woo voters.
Since campaigns began, the atmosphere in Edo had been one typified with velocities of trouble which created uncertainty and doubts about the election holding as scheduled.,
The Two governorship hopefuls, PDP’s Godwin Obaseki, incumbent seeking re-election and his top Challenger, Osagie Ize-iyamu of the APC have both claimed popularity and showcased their strengths and weaknesses before the electorate who determines who wins or loses at the end of the day.
