Adesina assumes AFDB presidency for second term with focus on institutions and people delivery
Akinwunmi Adesina took oath of office for second term as President of the African Development Bank on Tuesday making him the first Nigerian to occupy that position since the bank’s establishment on September 10 1964.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, the Ivorien Capital and presided over by the newly appointed chair of the Board of governors and Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Kenneth Ofori-Attah, who administered the oath of office.
Delivering his speech at the event which had in attendance, leaders of the continent in person and virtually, Adesina said his second term of five years would consolidate on the gains recorded in the first term which were based on his five developmental priotises known as High 5s
. The High 5s aimed To Light up and Power Africa,Feed Africa,Industrialise Africa,Integrate Africa and improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.
This time he said, the focus would be on institutions, people delivery and sustainability.
According to him, the bank will priotise financial partnerships, knowledge partnerships and investment partnerships stronger inclusive partnerships with Civil societies adding “we will reach out and tilt more global capital towards Africa joining investment hands across the globe to support the needs of the continent”
