The Police Command in Yobe State says Boko Haram terrorists are planning to join the planned nationwide protest beginning August 1 to cause mayhem in the state.
Spokesman of the Command,DSP Dungus Abdulkarim made this known to newsmen on Saturday in Damaturu, the Yobe capital.
He said credible intelligence revealed that foreign mercenaries were involved in the protest to destroy lives and property.
Abdulkarim said the recent IED explosion in Gujba Local Government Area of the state has raised serious concern about the resurgence of terrorists
He therefore advised organisers of the protest to avail the command of their details, proposed routes and assembly points.
” As Yobe State recovers from insurgency, the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed ,acknowleges” citizens constitutional rights to peaceful protest
” While we alert citizens to sinister motives , even peaceful protests at this time may be ill – timed.
” Recent insurgency activities in Gujba LGA , including an Improvised Explosive Device ( IED) explosion have raised concerns.
” We are unprepared to face additional security challenges” He said.
Abdulkarim said providing information about where the protest would take place would enable the command to’ deploy adequate personnel and resources,,designate specific routes and areas, establish clear communication channels and minimise the risk of violence, property damage or criminal activity.”
