Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service from Kuje to provide the detained executive of Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan, with a wheelchair.
Justice Nwite gave the order on Monday following a complaint from Gambaryan that his health situation has worsened since his remand in the Kuje correctional centre.
Gambaryan who was using crutches to walk after the court adjourned, stopped in front of Justice Nwite and lamented that his health had deteriorated since his remand at Kuje due to inadequate medical care.
He told the judge that although he has been living with a herniated disc for the past 12 years, his condition has worsened due to the lack of proper medical attention at the facility.
The Binance Chief also said that he now has difficulty walking and would appreciate it if his counsel’s request for a wheelchair was taken seriously.
The judge questioned the prison official present about why Gambaryan had been denied a wheelchair and subsequently ordered that one be provided which was immediately provided.
The trial was, however, stalled due to the absence of officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who were subpoenaed to produce some documents.
Thereafter,Justice Nwite adjourned the trial to Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
