Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has faulted the outcome of the Edo Gubernatorial Election saying ” Democracy is under attack”
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC had returned the All Progressives Congress APC candidate in the September 21 Gubernatorial election, Senator Monday Okpebholo as winner, having satisfied the requirements of the law.
But in a statement he personally signed and distributed to media houses, Fintiri claimed that the election was marred by irregularities -reported vote buying, voter intimidation, disruption of collation processes” and padding of results more than accredited voters . This undermines “trust in our democracy “.
” Democracy indeed is under attack . We must condemn this rape of democracy and demand accountability. The world is watching , and Nigeria deserves better ” Fintiiri , Chairman of the PDP Campaign Council for Edo State said.
The governor said that the ruling APC cannot distract him from telling the truth by falsely accusing him of announcing results. He took a swipe at Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC for flying into Edo State in a private jet on election day and defying movement restrictions and lambasted APC governors for using armoured escorts to intimate voters.describimg the behaviour as” truly shameful”.
