The Federal Government has said that it has not taken delivery of samples of Russia’s covid-19 vaccine as speculated.
The Minister of for State for Health,Adeleke Mamora, made this known at the Presidential Task Force briefing on Covid-19 in Abuja.
Mamora said all that the Ministry of Health received was a memoir,a diplomatic document informing Nigeria of what Russia is working on.
According to him, the Russian vaccine is in the third stage of clinical trial after which it will be subjected to evaluation for safety and efficacy by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration (NAFDAC). and National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) before it will be approved for use in the country.
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehinare had announced during the Presidential Task Force briefing last Friday that the Ministry had received samples of covid-19 vaccine from Russia’s Ambassador to the country,Alexey Shebarshin
Russia on Saturday August 15, announced that it had produced the first batch of its Covid-19 vaccine named Sputnik-V, after President Vladimir Putin announced that it had been first country in the world to approve a vaccine.a development which met with scepticism and criticism from scientists and Health bodies who warned that it was yet to go complete its circle of trials and other safety reviews before it can be approved for use.
