There was mild drama, excitement and laughter in the House of Representatives where members of the two chambers gathered to receive the 2025 budget from President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
President of the Senate,Sen. Godswill Akpabio who, spoke on the president ‘s achievements within 18 months jn his lengthy address urged the lawmakers to support the president so that he would in turn support their constuencies.
It was a political language that was understood which is why, the remark received not only thunderous applause but an accompanying rendition of the president’s mandate song by the lawmakers.-” On your mandate we shall stand,On your mandate we shall stand. On your mandate ,On your mandate,On your mandate we shall stand. The rendition was unanimous suggesting an agreement by all lawmakers irrespective of party affiliation of their support for Mr president.
The same scenario was created last year when the president presented the budget.
The move,critics believe highlights a trend either towards a one party state,or what the lawmakers intend to get from the president.
