President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and leaders of Ogoni in four Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
The local government areas are Khana,Gokana,Tai and Eleme.
The state delegation includes Senators Lee Maeba, Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Victor Giadom, Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedom Mitee, Senators Bennett Birabi, Barry Mpigi, Kenneth Kobani, and Prof. B. Fakae, among others.
Others in attendance are the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed; Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.
As of the time of filing the report,the agenda of the meeting was yet to be been made known, however it is believed to be connected to the resumption of oil exploration activities and some environmental issues in Ogoniland.
Oil exploration was disrupted in Ogoniland since 1993 following unrest
The Nigeria Petroleum Development Company took over oil wells in the land when Shell Development Company exited but little progress has been recorded since then.
It is learned that the people , rather than continuing to allow the land to go fallow are now ready to welcome oil and gas activities in Ogoniland.
Current matters understands that Ogoniland is home to about 200 oil wells and a capacity to produce more than 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day
