President Bola Tinubu has enacted the bill to establish the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoniland.
This announcement was made by the presidency via X on Monday morning.
The president described the development as historic and a significant milestone in the pursuit of equity , justice and sustainable development under his administration . .it read “Promise Kept. Signed into Law by President Bola Tinubu. The Federal University of Environment and Technology (TAI) Establishment Bill 2024,”
President Tinubu recently urged the people of Ogoniland to set aside their aged – long anger and toe the line for peace. The president during a meeting with a delegation of Rivers State led by Governor Siminilayi Fubara, comprising Ogoni leaders and other government functionaries at the State House expressed commitment to peace, equality ,justice and sustainable development in the region.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the National Security Adviser,Nuhu Ribadu, President Tinubu urged the people of Ogoni to let go their differences and anger and unite to usher in the needed development in the area.
The move is seen as a clear step to remove the hurdles that impinge the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland.
Ogoniland as other tribes in Rivers have vast crude oil resources but exploration of the rich resources came to an abrupt end following unresolved conflicts more than two decades ago.
