Mailafia”s move to stop police invitation suffers as court dismisses appeal
A High Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, has dismissed an application by Former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria,Dr Obadiah Mailafia ,seeking to stop the police from interrogating him.
The Court held that the police summon
was in order as it was based on a case in which Mailafia’s name featured prominently.
Mailafia was invited by the police in August for questioning at the Force Headquarters Abuja, over a statement he made during a programme on radio – Nigeria Info ,that a prominent northern governor was aiding the activities of Boko Haram in the country.
Mailafia had claimed that repentant terrorists in the north had informed him that a northern governor was one of those sponsoring Boko Haram .
The interview went viral causing confusion and suspicion of who the said northern governor could be.
The Northern Governors Forum headed by the governor of Plateau State,Simon Lalong immediately put out a statement describing the revelation as shocking and asked security agents to commence Investigation to demystify the claims.
Mailafia,a former presidential candidate, was invited by the police on two occasions and interrogated but declined invitation for a third time and approached a court to seek order to stop the police invitation stating that it was improper for the police to invite him since he was under investigation by a sister organisation, the Department of State Services,DSS .
