Thirteen persons have been charged in connection with alleged plot to kidnap Democratic governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer .FBI and state officials announced
The plan allegedly included the overthrow of several state governments that the suspects claim are violating the US Constitution.
According to Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel,,six people were charged federally for conspiracy to kidnap, while seven others associated with the militia group, “Wolverine Watchmen” were charged by the state.
Those in state custody are suspected to have attempted to identify the home addresses of law enforcement officers in order to target them, and orchestrate violence intended to cause a civil war with a view of attacking the capitol building a Michigan and to kidnap government officials including the governor, Whitmer.
The alleged evil scheme has been seen by many as political, and an attempt by disgruntled elements to frustrate some states that swing votes in the US election
Whitmer had imposed restrictions on Michigan to contain the spread of coronavirus,a development that was wildly criticised by the lPresident Donald Trump and his supporters.
In televised statement on Thursday, Whitmer said ‘I knew the job would be hard,but l’ll be honest,I never could ‘ve imagined anything like this’ She blamed President Trump for declining to condemn the far- right groups.
According to her, the President last week, stood before the American people and refused to condemn white supremacists and hate groups like the militias involved in the kidnap scheme.
