The Lagos State Government has announced that 181 students and staff of a private boarding school located in a suburb of Lekki, have tested positive for coronavirus.
The state Commissioner for Health Prof.Akin Abayomi, who disclosed this on Friday said the students and staff tested positive for coronavirus during surveillance and case Investigation in the school.
According to him, the school has a population of 441 comprising students and staff and explained that a 14 year- old SS1 female student fell sick on October 3 and was sent home after receiving first aid at the school.
He said the student tested positive on Tuesday, October 6 in one of the accredited private labs in Lagos noting that all parents have been contacted and counseled to allay their fears while there is a total lockdown and movement restriction in the school with Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer reporting daily at the school to conduct further investigation.
Abayomi said positive students and staff have been isolated in the school premises and given the Covid-19 home-care treatment packs and are being monitored in isolation within the school premises.
He further stated that If the students are unwell,they will be admitted in one of the accredited isolation centres in Lagos adding that students are discouraged from going home to avoid infecting members of their families.
